Your Move Goal in the Apple Eat Well Challenge

This article explains how your Move Goal will be set in the Apple Eat Well Challenge. This article will also review tracking options for earning points in the Challenge.

Participants can earn 12 points each time they meet their Move Goal. The challenge awards points for meeting the Move Goal up to 3 times daily, with a maximum of 36 points.

What’s My Move Goal?

Upon entering the Eat Well Challenge, you will be prompted to enter your current weight. This entry will determine your Move Goal, 2x your entered weight during the challenge. For example, if you've entered your weight as 160 pounds, your Move Goal during the challenge will be 320 calories each day. Your weight and Move Goal will not be publicly displayed.

The Move Goal set by Challenges may not match the Goal you have set for your Apple Watch or Apple Fitness app.

You should set your Apple Watch and Apple Fitness Move Goal to match the Move Goal set by Challenges. This will ensure clarity if you're meeting your Move Goal in Challenges but not on the Apple Watch or in the Apple Fitness app.

Tracking Movement

Movement points are awarded based on activity. You can choose to track your activity using either of these two methods:

  1. Apple Watch Move Activity: Points are awarded based on closing the Move ring on the Apple Watch.
  2. Move Activity Data from Apple Fitness on an iPhone (iOS 16 is required): The iPhone tracks activity using motion sensors, monitoring steps, distance, and third-party workouts to estimate calories burned. For more information on how this works, visit the iPhone user guide.

Granting Challenges app permissions to read from Apple Health is required to earn points for movement!

Please note that if you have an Apple Watch paired with your iOS device but would like to track your activity using the Move Activity Data from Apple Fitness on an iPhone, you must unpair it so that Apple Fitness will use the iPhone as a tracking source. Once unpaired, your Fitness app will begin using your iPhone as a tracking source the next day.

You cannot change your tracking source once you have entered a challenge. If you want to change your tracking source, you must leave the challenge and join again.

It is strongly encouraged that if you have a functional Apple Watch that supports the latest version of Challenges, you should regularly wear your Watch during the Eat Well Challenge. Points can not be awarded after the fact if your Apple Watch or iPhone is not recording movement accurately.
